Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro (1983)

Verdict : Goofy, satirical, nonsensical... but one of the funniest Hindi movies ever.

Director : Kundan Shah (Kabhi Haan, Kabhi naa, Kya Kehna)

Cast : Naseeruddin Shah (Sparsh, Pestonjee), Ravi Baswani (Chashme Buddor), Pankaj Kapur (Karamchand, Ek Doctor Ki Maut), Om Puri (Ardh Satya, City Of Joy), Satish Kaushik (Mr. India)

Story : Two naive photographers get caught in a web of deceit, corruption and murder with hilarious consequences.

Review : With all the remakes coming in recent times I decided to check out a couple of original films from the 80's. One of them being this gem of a movie.

Boasting of a formidable cast (all in their younger days) consisting of alumni of FTII, this is a movie everyone should see. The passion for cinema is evident in every frame of this film. A time when movie making was not about 100 crores. It was simply for the love of story telling.

You can make out the production budget was low, technically the crew was still raw but the honesty and diligence with which the movie has been made is very endearing. One top of that the acting is top notch from everyone. Each actor staying perfectly in his character. Add to it probably the funniest scenes in Hindi cinema (The Mahabharat climax) and you realize why this movie is regarded as a classic.

One can write a whole thesis on this movie but I will stop my self here.

Just one advice to everyone : If you haven't seen this movie watch it. If you have seen it ....well watch it again. Its much better than the stuff coming out nowadays.
