Verdict : Decent film but not strong enough to justify a reboot
Director : Marc Webb ( 500 Days of Summer)
Cast : Andrew Garfield (The Social Network, Never Let Me Go), Emma Stone (Easy A, Zombieland), Rhys Ilfans as Lizard (Anonymous, Notting Hill)
Story : The story of how Peter Parker becomes Spider-Man and faces off against a monster who might have clues about his father's mysterious disappearance and death
Review : The previous Spider Man trilogy was very good. The third part might not have been that great but the first two were excellent. Thus rebooting the franchise so soon is risky and comparisons become inevitable.
Overall there is nothing much wrong with the film. The special effects are very good, he casting is also decent, the story is infused with more emotion. However the film lacks that spark which made the first one so good. This is primarily down the villain - The Lizard. Though he looks intimidating he doesn't really challenge spider man enough. The police seem more of a threat to Spider-man than the Lizard. This makes the confrontation fall a bit flat...which is never a good thing for a superhero movie.
Andrew Garfield looks the part but because of the way he has portrayed Peter Parker I found Tobey Maguire more endearing.
Overall worth a watch for fans of super hero genres but not a great movie
