Wall Street : Money Never Sleeps (2010)

Rating : Average movie. Just seems to be lacking that spark to make it something special

Director : Oliver Stone (Platoon, Wall Street)

Cast : Michael Douglas (Wall Street, Basic Instinct), Shia LeBeouf (Transformers series), Josh Brolin (No Country for old men, True Grit)

Story : Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas) is back, after spending eight years in prison. This time though he seems to be against everything Wall Street stands for. Recession is about to hit America. And caught in the midst of this are his daughter - a leftist and to be son-in law (Shia) - an upcoming Wall Street star.

Review : Oliver Stone likes to make epic sort of movies which are critical of some issue plaguing America. He tires to do the same thing in this movie as well. However the movie seems to lack the focus and sharpness of its predecessor. Though greed is at the center of this story as well the sub plots tracks keep wavering leaving you with a sort of unsatisfied feeling.

There is nothing much bad about the movie but at the same time nothing much great about it either.

The ending seems too rushed and convenient. There is brief cameo by Charlie Sheen as Buddy Fox but the interaction between him and Douglas does not let loose any sparks

Performance wise Michael Douglas is quite good and still has the charisma of Gordon Gekko. Shia Lebeouf is as usual the fast talking, arrogant, smart ass. So he fits in perfectly as the stereotypical Wall Street guy. But that's the problem with the movie. Everything seems too stereotypical.

Overall you can watch if you want to see what impact recession would have on an iconic character like Gekko. But you won't lose much even if you give it a miss.
