Rango (2011)

Rating : Wonderful movie not just for the animation but also the intriguing plot and engaging characters

Director : Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean series)

Cast (Voices) : Johnny Depp (Pirates of the Caribbean), Isla Fisher (Definitely Maybe, Wedding Crashers), Ned Beatty (Shooter - The bad guy Senator), Bill Nighy (Pirates of.. - Davy Jones, Love Actually)

Story : Rango, a pet chameleon, accidentally winds up in a western town called Dirt. The town is facing acute water shortage. When Rango is appointed as the sheriff he takes it upon himself to be a hero. But investigating the water shortage leads to unraveling a more sinister conspiracy.

Review : Simply put, this movie is China Town meets Clint Eastwood (a very strong reference to him later on in the film too). However saying that wouldn't be doing justice to film. While the main plot point is borrowed from Chinatown, the story woven around is as good as any western classic. The action, the dialogues, the menacing villains, the lone hero and his posse. Everything fits in perfectly. The music works very well in heightening the atmosphere as well.

To top it off the animation is spectacular. The attention to details given while creating the various animals, the landscapes is just fabulous. Some of the shots captured are breathtakingly beautiful. To match that animation the casting and the voices are spot on.

Juts one disclaimer is that even though its an animation movie probably kids wont enjoy it as much as grown ups will.

Overall worth a watch for anyone who is a fan of animation movies or westerns.
