Rating : Gritty, Hard hitting film. Worth a watch for the performances.
Director : Daniel Barber (Debut Film)
Cast : Michael Caine (The Dark Knight Trilogy - Alfred, The Prestige), Emily Mortimer (The Pink Panther series - Nicole)
Story : Set in England, Harry Brown is a retied marine and a widower. When his best friend is killed by a local gang and the police are unable to do anything, Harry takes it upon himself to serve justice.
Review : Michael Caine is a very good actor but I have always associated him with dramatic or emotional roles. Not action. Thus when I read the synopsis of Harry Brown I was excited to see Michael Caine get angry and take revenge. Now this is not a movie where you will see high speed action or stunts. The killings are short yet realistic and brutal. This is what is good about the film
Even though the story is predictable the realistic portrayal doesn't let it become a typical Hollywood action revenge movie. Instead the director has shown very nicely the inability of the police to take action, the problems Harry faces because of his old age etc. Thereby making a tense and engaging thriller.
The performance from Michael Caine,as usual, is very good. He combines the fragility of old age along with anger and the need for revenge very nicely. Emily Mortimer doesn't have much to do but look sympathetic. The local gang of delinquents though do a very good job. You really start loathing them and thereby root for Harry Brown to clean up the streets.
Overall a very good movie to watch but be warned the killings and the blood are shown in a very brutal way
