The Woman in Black (2012)

Rating : Spooky in parts but very predictable

Director : James Watkins (Eden Lake)

Cast : Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter series), Ciaran Hinds (Ghost Rider : Spirit of Vengeance, Munich)

Story : Arthur Kipps (Daniel Radcliffe) is a recent widower with a four year old son. Lawyer by profession, he is assigned work in a remote village to examine the documentation of a house. Little does he know that the house and the village are terrorized by a ghost intent on killing the children of the village

Review : The good part about the movie is after a long time there is horror movie which doesn't have gore or blood. It tries to scare you the old fashioned way. Ghosts, haunted houses, creepy settings and characters. In those aspects it succeeds. The main house and it surroundings are really spooky thanks to some wonderful art direction. The ghost is also designed nicely with no gore or ugly make up shown. The sounds are loud enough to startle you a couple of times.

Especially the first night that Daniel Radcliffe spends in the mansion. It is quite scary

The problem is though if you've seen enough horror movies (and i've seen quite a few) you can spot the ending a mile away. Past the halfway point you can easily predict whats going to happen right till the end. That makes you lose your interest a bit.

The acting is decent from everyone but Daniel Radcliffe will have to work very hard to come out of the shadow of Harry Potter. You half expect him to whip out his wand at any moment and conjure up a Patronus charm.

Overall a decent movie that has its moments. But nothing spectacular. Watch only if you're a fan of horror movie.
