Rating : A nothing sort of movie. Give it a miss
Director: David Frankel (The Devil Wears Prada, Marley and Me)
Cast : Owen Wilson (Marley and Me, Midnight in Paris), Jack Black (School of Rock, Kug Fu Panda)), Steve Martin (The Pink Panther series - new one)
Story: In birding a Big Year is where one sees the maximum different types of birds possible in one calendar year. The movie is the story of 3 people who vie for the title of the Birder of the Year. This quest takes them on a journey across America but the prize maybe very different from what they had expected.
Review : When we see the names Jack Black, Owen Wilson and Steve Martin together, the only thing that comes to mind is an all out comedy, bordering on adult or gross but nonetheless a comedy film. The makers of the film also decided to promote it as a comedy. To its credit the film is completely clean and can be watched by the entire family. Unfortunately there are hardly any instances throughout the movie where you will laugh.
This is more a journey of self discovery type of movie with some comic situations in between. However the movie does not deliver on that front too. Though a lot of time and effort are devoted in developing the characters and their families you don really connect with anyone in particular. You don't feel any emotions towards anyone of them. In the end what you are left with is a movie which seems more suited for National Geographic.
Overall a very average movie. You wont lose anything if you don't see this movie
