Amour (French, 2012)

Rating : Heartbreaking but fabulous movie. Must watch

Director : Michael Haneke ( White Ribbon, The Piano Teacher)

Cast : Jean-Louis Trintignant (Z), Emmanuelle Riva (Hiroshima Mon Amour)

Story : George (Jean-Louis) and Anna (Emmanuelle) are an old couple. Their daughter is married and stays abroad. One day Anna has an attack leaving her with partial paralysis. The couples true love comes to light and is tested as George tries to take care of Anna

Review : This is the first Michael Haneke film I have seen. I had heard a lot about him and this movie especially after it won the Palme d'Or at Cannes. After seeing this film I can truly say that all the hype and publicity is deserved. This is a wonderful movie.

It is a movie about true love but under very different circumstances. The story might seem simple but the way it is told is the true genius. Michael holds your attention right from the start to the end. Even though there are quite a few shots which go on for a long time you never feel that the movie is dragging.

The beauty of the shots also lie in their clarity. The cinematography and direction work so perfectly together that everything seems natural. This is helped by some amazing acting and wonderful dialogues.

I don't want to say much about this movie as it should be seen to experience its wonder. Despite the movie being in French everyone will be able to relate to it and that is the hallmark of a great movie.

Overall a must watch movie for everyone. Just be patient with the pace of the film.
