Rating : Good romantic movie. Predictable at times, probably though because so many movies have borrowed from it
Director : Fatih Akin (Head On, The Edge of Heaven)
Cast : Moritz Bleibtreu (Das Experiment, The Baader Meinhof Complex), Christiane Paul (Die Welle)
Story : Daniel (Moritz) is a young, introvert student teacher who doesn't get out much. When Daniel meets a girls and thinks she is his true love, he sets out on a cross country journey but his destination might not be what he thinks it is.
Review : This is a very sweet, romantic, different movie...for its time. Unfortunately you can make out a lot of films have been inspired by the characters, situations, theme etc from in July. Thus at times the movie feels predictable. Despite that you can still see why this movie is so highly rated. The ending might be predictable but the journey is still very exciting. Especially towards the second half when the movie throws in a couple of surprises and innovations.
I never associated Fatih Akin with romantic comedy movies. But he shows a deft touch very subtly dealing with emotions. He never goes over the top. Plus he has created some very lovable characters whom we can instantly connect with.
The acting is quite good from everybody. What really helps though is a wonderful background score that goes very well with the mood of the movie.
Overall definitely worth a one time watch at least.
