Rating : Wonderful film. Will have you smiling pretty much throughout the movie
Director : Michael Radford ( 1984, The Merchant of Venice, Flawless)
Cast: Philippe Noiret (Cinema Paradiso), Massimo Troisi
Story : Mario (Massimo) is an unemployed son of poor fisherman in a small village. When a famous poet Pablo Neruda (Philippe) is exiled onto the island for political reasons Mario gets a temporary job as his postman ends up befriending him. When Mario falls in love Pablo helps him woo the girl with the power of poems.
Review : This is very simple movie, a very simple story and some very simple characters. But the way the characters have been portrayed, the situations created, your heart cant help but reach out to them. You smile at their innocence, laugh when they laugh, feel their pain. Throughout the movie you experience what the characters experience and that is what makes this such a wonderful movie.
The full credit for this goes to the director and screenplay. Without using any gimmicks or complexities they manage to keep a hold on you. Complementing this perfectly is some wonderful acting, especially by Massimo. Whenever you see him discuss his problems on the screen you cant help but feel like helping him out.
Add to that mix some wonderful dialogues which make conversations seem very genuine yet keep them interesting and a soft but apt background score. What you get is a gem of a movie
Overall a very sweet movie. Definitely worth a watch.
