The Bay (2012)

Rating : Decent Eco-Horror. Worth a one time watch

Director : Barry Levinson (Rain Man, Wag the Dog)

Cast : Kristen Connolly (The Cabin in the Woods)

Story : The population of Claride, Maryland has been almost wiped out completely. The government is trying to cover up the whole thing. A couple of survivors try to release the truth to the public by piecing together various footage from newscast, personal recorders, 911 calls etc.

Review : Like I mentioned before I am a big fan of horror movies. Thus even if a horror movie is slightly good I get excited. This is what has happened with The Bay.

Initially I was skeptical because it was shot in the whole 'found footage' manner which has been done to death, most of the times unsuccessfully. However director Barry Levinson uses it very well here to piece together a story based on footage from various sources.  He keeps us engaged as to what is about to happen next and even though you know where the story is headed you remain engrossed.

This is not a horror movie in the traditional sense. Nothing jumps out to scare you (except a couple of scenes). It is more to warn and alarm you about the dangers of messing with the environment. It succeeds on that level. Thankfully there are no zombies or ghosts or aliens, but something which seems a little more believable.

There are no known actors to give it a more believable feel and everyone puts in a decent performance.

Overall a good movie to watch especially for fans of the horror genre.
