Rating : 7/10
Director : Greg Mottola (Superbad, Adventureland)
Cast : Simon Pegg, Nick Frost (Duo from Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz), Jason Bateman (Hancock, Couples Retreat), Seth Rogen (Pineapple Express, Knocked Up)
Story : Graeme and Clive (Simon and Nick respectively) are two sci-fi geeks who embark on a cross country road trip through America visiting all the major UFO sites. On their trip they actually end up befriending an alien named Paul (Seth Rogen) who has escaped from 'The Big Guy' in order to get home. This trio is chased by some Federal Agents (Jason Bateman) and a religious fanatic dad whose daughter they happen to kidnap on the way.
Review : Paul is another excellent comedy by the duo of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. But it is important to note that it is not an out and out laugh riot. It is has its comic moments but also some decent action sequences and a lot of homage to great sci-fi movies of the past like E.T., Alien series etc.
The direction and script keep you engaged throughout. The acting from the entire cast is good and Seth Rogen as the foul mouthed, cigarette smoking alien is a lot of fun. The CGI effects are also quite good.
All in all a fun movie to watch especially for lovers of the sci-fi genre. Bear in mind though that there is a lot of profanity in the movie and hence is not suitable for kids.
