Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005)

Rating : 7.5/10

Director : Tim Burton (Edward Scissorhands, Alice in Wonderland)

Cast : Johnny Depp, Freddie Highmore (August Rush, The Spiderwick Chronicles)

Story : Based on the children’ story by Roald Dahl, Charlie (Freddie Highmore) and his grandfather get the opportunity of a lifetime when they win a golden ticket to visit the eccentric genius Willy Wonka (Johnny Depp) at his chocolate factory along with 5 other kids. The chocolate factory is a dream come true for any kid but there is a lesson to be learned by the kids and their parents.

Review : Roald Dahl’s wonderfully imaginative story, Tim Burton’s own eccentric style and Johnny Depps impeccable performance combine to serve up a treat which is every bit as delightful as Willy Wonka’s chocolates.

The movie’s high point is Tim Burton’s visual style as he brings the amazing Chocolate Factory to life in spectacular fashion. Freddie Highmore as Charlie and David Kelly as his grandfather are lovable. But Johnny Depp as the eccentric, bordering on psychopathic Willy Wonka is just fabulous. The only down point being the Oompa Loompa songs

Worth a watch for both children and adults alike.
