Story : Virgil Cole (Ed Harris) and Everett Hitch (Viggo Mortensen) are hired by the town of Appaloosa to rid them of Randall Bragg (Jeremy Irons) and his gang of thugs. They join the town as marshall and deputy after the previous marshal was shot dead by Randall. Meanwhile a widow arrives in town and Virgil falls in love with her. However things are not all they seem and Virgil and Everett will be tested to their limits.
Review : A lot of people have said that this movie captures the true essence and grittiness of the wild west. That might be true however for a neutral viewer like me all the realism made this movie lack entertainment. The chemistry, the conflicts all simmer and sizzle but the explosion does not happen leaving you a bit unsatisfied.
The acting is decent from everyone and the direction by Ed Harris is sincere. But again the biggest problem for me was lack of entertainment value. The gun fights might be realistic but are not fun to watch.
Overall if you are a real fan of westerns only then should you consider watching this. Even then do not expect something like good bad and ugly or unforgiven
